Thrift Find: My New Emerald Green Robe (that I'm dying over)

emeraldgreenrobe1.jpg

If you guys follow me on Instagram, you know I love a good thrift find and I am constantly on the hunt. I started thrift and consignment shopping when I was in college, because well, I was broke and wasn't given a huge monthly stipend like some of my friends that came from money (which I am so grateful for and would never do it differently because it made me stick to a budget and appreciate the value of a dollar).

I always loved fashion and have had a strong sense of personal style since I was young, but in order to look the way I wanted to in college, I had to thrift and consignment shop to find my clothes. I fell in LOVE! If you search long enough, there are amazing finds out there, it just takes patience! I love stores like Crossroads and Wasteland, but there are second hand stores all over the place. You just gotta give them a try and see if they carry current and quality items.

Over the years as our careers have become more stable and have allowed more flexibility financially, I am able to buy some things that are more of an investment. I will never give up thrifting though, its just a smart way to shop. FOR INSTANCE, I found this robe that is currently full priced on Revolve with the tags on!

I am in love with the color, pattern, and feel of this  robe by L'academie (that also comes in a floral pattern).I wish I could find you guys the same deal on this robe that I got, but you know how thrifting goes! Luck of the draw): but I'm secretly happy about it! haha #sorrynotsorry.

I love this casual look and am in love with these AGOLDE jeans. They are perfect dressed up or down. They are California casual at its best, and that's my absolute favorite way to dress...of course mixed with something eclectic. I love this look and highly recommend getting this robe if you like the robe or kimono look! Its amazing. Details and more pics below!

Winter Coat Roundup

pinkcoat15.jpg

As I am writing this post, I am sitting in my house with socks, cozy sweatpants, and an oversized sweater on from Zara all bundled up with my dog, Cookie, laying on me. Heaven.

I can finally post about cold weather pieces without feeling like an idiot because here in LA, it stays hot till mid November! In the last few days its gotten chilly in the beach cities of LA, where I live. I have been loving reasons to wear my fun coats and jackets. If you know me you'll know I have a rolling rack in my closet dedicated to outwear. I love looking at the rack filled with fun faux furs, sparkly blazers, beaded this, and crocheted that. That rolling rack contains my favorite pieces in my whole closet!

As much as I love a plethora of styles. I am very particular about fit and tailoring, fabric and quality. It doesnt have to be designer or expensive to meet that standard, it just needs to look and fit well. I hate things that have tacky fabrics that look itchy or uncomfortable or are overly trendy items that are clearly fads, I shared coats that I feel look expensive and stylish with a great shape! I also rounded up coats for all budgets, that I have been loving and wanting for upcoming trips (hint. hint..this is my taste if my husband reads my blog. honey can we please go somewhere snowy soon?) Hope you guys love the options I am sharing!

Gift Ideas I Love

Okay, so I kinda consider myself a chameleon when it comes to style. I love to dress eclectic one day, classy and chic another, maybe a little "I don't care" grunge the next, possibly preppy the following, and so on and so forth. Soooo confusing and you can imagine a little difficult to try and nail down my style. But when it comes down to it, I am ALWAYS most attracted to a modernized bohemian aesthetic because I just feel its FUN and really expressive.

I am an expressive person who loves to use my style whether in dress or home decor to express my personality. This gift list is for the person in your life that loves fashion, jewelry, and decor with a splash of something special.

VELVET SHOPPING GUIDE

I don't know about you, but I am gearing up for cooler weather and luxe fabrics. Here in LA where I live, it has been super hot and not festive which is a little depressing for someone who lives for cold mornings and coffee dates. All I want in life is to be cozy and drink coffee, is that too much to ask? Okay, I want to also look super cute while doing so:) hahaha I can't be alone in this! Well, even though its not quite that cool the holiday weather here yet, it is getting time to prepare and make sure our outfits for the upcoming events and parties are on point!

As you can see velvet is hot right now and for good reason. Its rich in color and texture and always makes a statement. I love velvet for Christmas parties and bridal or baby showers for friends to get in the holiday spirit. Revolve and Shopbop have some amazing options right now, but I also included  some gorgeous H&M pieces that are super affordable show stoppers. Check them out and let me know which pieces you love!

Gallery Wall Hack That Saves $$

Hi ladies,

Happy Friday! Its been a super fun week in my life as many of you know who follow me on insta. I turned 30 on Wednesday and have been living it up and milking this birthday thing for as many days as I can get away with! We also just got back from our staycation with my family where we stayed at The London hotel for two nights and it was a blast.

But enough about my birthday, lets talk prints.  I have been working on my print and framing game lately to spruce up the big white walls of the new DTLA project. I am a huge lover of art and photography on the walls to create a truly authentic space, and prints allow me to do that for much less than custom art would. I always love to save money wherever I can to create unique looks and spaces for less, but don’t want anything to look “DIY”.  That super home made look sometimes feels cheesy to me if not done well.  However, how are you supposed to have a fun and custom gallery wall without spending an arm and a leg on costly prints and photos? Is there a cheaper way to have a gorgeous pop of color in your home through art without spending hundreds or thousands over time? Yes there totally is. The answer is in coffee table books. Their pages are thick, glossy, and high quality, so why not carefully remove pages of our favorite books to frame and see them all the time?  The price of one coffee table book is equivalent to one medium size print on One Kings Lane or Urban Outfitters at about $80. For that price,  I’ve been able to get at least 10 high quality prints that I have hung in our Redondo Beach home and Palm Springs, and now Downtown Los Angeles.  This approach has saved me so much money! Here’s the simple step by step guide I use:

7-easy-steps-to-get-gorgeous-prints.png

1.     Figure out the type of prints you want in your space. Retro? Black and White? Photograpyh? Illustration?

2.     If you don’t already know, research coffee table books for the category you want. I love Slim Aarons and have his books, so this was a no brainer for me. I wanted vintage photos with retro colors to brighten up my space. I also wanted black and white photos, so used my Chanel coffee table book.

prints-1-4.jpg

3.     Once you have the book (s), bookmark pages you love with full page images. Make sure the back isn’t important since the page will be coming out.

4.     Use an exacto knife to carefully and precisely remove the pages you want framed.

5.     Measure the pages to know what size frames to get. I love these Target ones for a great price and good quality. Ikea also has some great frames for less.

6.     Once your images are framed, you can use painters blue tape to create a measured area to represent your wall. Lay the frames on the ground and play around with the arrangement until you find one you love.

7.     Now you hang! I have my hubby do this because I end up just throwing nails in the wall and my prints always end up crooked. Use a leveler and recreate the arrangement you just did on the floor . Voila! Your house looks amazing.

Have you guys tried coffee table books in the past for quality prints? Which books do you love for images? I'd love to know!

Slide Roundup

This summer, It's all about slides! Well actually this entire year , as this style of sandal has been popping up in every shape, color, material, with embellishments, without embellishments, and basically every style in between! I especially love them being a tall girl because it makes it so easy to look chic while still being comfortable running errands or going to castings all over town. (Fun fact: clients in LA don't mind you being tall, but definitely don't like when you look "too" tall. I'm  5'11'' without heels, so when I wear them for castings, I'm considered tooooo tall...whateverrrr)

I rounded up my favorite slides from some of my favorite sites, varying from super affordable ( Like 20 bucks!) to designer splurges. Check them out and let me know your favorites in the comments below!

I love the ease of slides, whether flat or mules. The first 12 are either designer sandals on sale that I love (and think are worth getting for the sale price), or are high style for a great price from the get go! Number 12 is the pair featured in the pic above!

I have been keeping my eye on some of these splurges and haven't been able to pull the trigger yet since you guys know I love a good deal! I am particularly fond of the Alexander Wang caged and studded slides above...How great are they? I'm also loving number 6!  They're all so good! Shop the slides below if you see any you fancy!

Kim
